The Death of Flash

After a long battle with addiction, Adobe has finally come to terms with its little problem called Flash. In the future, development will focus exclusively on premium video and advanced gaming. From the Flash Roadmap white paper:

Looking forward, Adobe believes that Flash is particularly suited for addressing the gaming and premium video markets, and will focus its development efforts in those areas. At the same time, Adobe will make architectural and language changes to the runtimes in order to ensure that the Flash runtimes are well placed to enable the richest experiences on the web and across mobile devices for another decade.

This is ultimate acceptance. But it’s strange that they added, “… across mobile devices for another decade,” considering the roadmap makes Flash’s future on mobile very clear:

Flash Player 11.1 is the last release of the Flash Player plug-in for mobile browsers. Adobe will not add support for new mobile device configurations (chipset, browser, OS version, etc.).

In other words, Flash is dead.
